My Teaching Philosophy
My Teaching Philosophy is the framework that guides my teaching methods and shapes how I see myself as a Counselor Educator. Much like in a clinical realm, it is what informs my practice.
My teaching is grounded in Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Experiential Learning Theory (ELT). I find learning through infusing these pedagogies creates an engaging learning environment where students are not only challenged but are supported as they navigate their own professional growth in the counseling field. As an emerging counselor educator, I am passionate about preparing a diverse population of mental health clinicians and professional school counselors. Using the Discrimination Model, I have provided both individual and triadic supervision to City U and Walden students.
All of which are qualities that I encourage in my classroom. I also feel that it is important that everyone bring their own narratives and world-views into the learning environment. This further fosters a collaborative learning space.

Additionally, I also incorporate mindfulness practices into my teaching practice. I do this by staying present, intentional, and aware of myself as an instructor. As well as creating opportunities for mindfulness-based practices for students; such as self-appreciation practices, empowerment-based approaches, and stress-reducing breathing techniques.
