About Me

I am a native of Washington, DC with 20 years’ experience working with underserved and underrepresented communities.

I graduated from the University of Maryland University College with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in African-American Studies. I earned my master’s degree from Trinity Washington University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. To further broaden my work, I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision with a focus on Trauma and Crisis at Walden University.

As a clinical mental health professional, social justice advocate, counselor educator, and mentor, I am passionate about the positive impact that access to mental health has on urban communities of color. My experience includes working with those who were justice-involved, living with HIV/AIDS, and communities plagued by homelessness. As the owner of The Urban Mindfulness Project, my goal is to provide clients with the benefits of sustained mindfulness practice while living in an urban environment.

My clinical areas of specialization have expanded in serving communities of color from a person-centered Trauma-Informed approach, through issues of grief and loss, LGBTQ, youth living in foster care, justice involvement, and those navigating and substance and alcohol abuse.

I am a huge proponent of self-care. Thus, to support my own mental wellness, I enjoy traveling, basking in the sun, interior design, the theatre, antique shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
